Macallan, 24

Macallan is a woman of many hats. While these last few months have been dedicated to working on her art, she is also an outdoor educator, wildlife research biologist, equestrian, singer, apprentice dog trainer, to name a few. Her need to balance her many interests lead her to have a very adventurous life. From living in Botswana, Africa and experiencing countless animals, to going to the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry for Conservation Biology. She has lived in Colorado as a horse wrangler on a ranch, lived in a tent in the jungles of Costa Rica studying sloths, lived in a cabin in the woods in Bear Mountain State Park where she taught kids about nature. She will also be joining her mentor on a documentary studying the behavior of different species of dogs around the world starting in 2020.

Macallan’s art work is a collection of her passions. A range from one series that shows the first perspective of a Sloth Technician with The Sloth Institute in Costa Rica to one body of work that brings all your favorite animals to life out of frames. Macallan loves to bring her passion for animals to her passion for art. She not only does these recreationally in this series but she also has the opportunity to use art in jobs, such as outdoor education, where she would encourage children to use art as a way of learning and asking questions about the natural world around them.

Macallan hopes to continue to develop her own style while sharing her passions with the world, inspiring others to do the same. Please follow her journey on Instagram at @macallan_durkin_art.
